Verity is divided in North and South. The north is protected and ruled by Callum Harker and the south by Henry Flynn. They have a truce so they keep to their side.
The city is full of monsters. Some are humans and the other ones appeared after a human commited a terrible act, they’re divided in Corsai, Malchai and Sunai. The first two obey Harker and the Sunai are allies of Flynn.
Kate is Callum Harker’s daughter. She’s intelligent but troublesome because she wants to be accepted by her dad and live in the city with him after many years of being far away.
August is a Sunai that lives with the Flynn’s. He’s treated as their son. His violin is the instrument of his power, the Sunai’s eat sinner’s souls using music.
Kate and August are sent to Colton school where they meet and together they’ll have to find a way of maintaining the truce, but there are some bad guys conspiring to break it and begin a war.
I liked very much the story because I thought it was very original, above all else the part of the monsters and the power of the Sunai.
I would like to know more about when and why the monsters began to appear. Maybe in the second book there’s a bigger explanation for that.
Both Kate and August are strong characters and I liked them. Well, at the beginning I disliked Kate a little but I changed my opinion as I read. The relationship between them is a nice one.
I think this is a book that caught my attention since the beginning. It has a lot of action, also it has emotive and profound moments. I recommend it without doubt.
The end leaves you wanting to read the second book.
