The main character of this intense novel is Sethe, a slave who manages to escape with her children from the place where she was captive.
Her owners find her and Sethe, trying to save her children from slavery, manages to kill one of her daughters, the one named Beloved.
This situation leaves huge emptiness in Sethe’s heart, until one day a girl appears at her house’s door. This girl is the age that Beloved would be.
This book talks about the cruelty of slavery and the way white people thought about black people. Also it talks about a mother’s love towards her children.
It’s poetic, raw and it could be kind of confusing because the times are mixed in the story.
I want to mention that the existence of Beloved was very mystical. Also that she was the character I liked the least. She was very unpleasant.
I believe that Sethe had a very difficult life and, in my opinion, she deserved to be happy without Beloved. She had Denver who was a good girl, besides she grew a lot after all the story.
I recommend this shocking book by a Nobel and Pulitzer award winner.
