This book tells us two stories that take place in London at different times. (Present and 1791).
The present one is starred by Caroline, a historian who finds out that her husband cheated on her, so she travels to London, the travel was planned as an anniversary celebration, where she starts an investigation after finding a vial doing mudlarking. This investigation will help her remember one of her favorite activities in the past and to get over her traitorous husband.
The one that happens at 1791 is about Nella (the apothecary) and Eliza (a girl). Nella sold potions to women who wanted to assassinate traitorous men. She met Eliza when the girl’s Mrs. sent her to collect a potion. A friendship grew on them but that relationship will put them in danger.
I liked a lot both stories. I would have wanted to read the book in a faster way because it was intriguing and every time I stopped reading I thought of it. There are exciting moments, others are inspiring and emotive, others are stressful and others are joyful.
I loved Caroline’s investigation (I would like to find something like that) and the end was great.
Her decision about her marriage was the best.
Talking about Nella and Eliza, both were brave, especially Eliza who helped Nella in a lot of ways. What a wonderful girl!
I add this book to my favorites! You must read it!
