In this book’s world, the spirits of the Dead can return to their bodies with a necromancer’s help, but they’ve to be very careful not to become a Shade, an awful and hungry monster.
Odessa of Grenwyr is a Master Necromancer, nicknamed Sparrow. She’s one of the King’s necromancers. The other one is Evander, her boyfriend.
One day, when they were going to bring back King Wylding’s spirit, one of their teachers, Master Nicanor, gets out of the Deadlands bleeding and dying. It seems that he was attacked by a Shade. This will be the first death of Odessa’s beloved ones and the first terrible attack of the Shades.
Can the Necromancers stop the Shades before a lot of Karthians die?
Well, I think this is a great novel that I enjoyed a lot. I liked the sexual diversity.
I also liked the magician’s variety and that the Sight depended on their eyes. There were Beast Masters with green eyes, Healers with hazel eyes, Weather Masters with gray eyes, Necromancers with blue eyes, amongst others.
I think that change is good, change can be for better. I disagreed with the King’s prohibition of change and inventions like the ones princess Valoria created, they were useful for the people.
About the idea of the returning dead, I don’t know what to think. I’m not sure if that would be a good thing.
Well, definitely I’ll read the next book when it comes out and I think I’ll add this one to my favorites.
