In this novel, some of the characters of The Shadow of the Wind reappear. This time, the story is about Fermín Romero de Torres, Daniel Sempere’s best friend, we know him because he was the one who helped Daniel against Laín Cubert. Fermín is about to marry Bernarda and he’s very happy with that idea, but there’s something bothering him and Daniel wants to know what is it, so, he convinces Fermín to tell him. We’ll read the whole story of Fermín’s stay at Montjuic’s prison and we’ll read about all the characters he met in there, the most important one will be David Martín, a writer who had some kind of relationship with Daniel’s mother. He’ll be of special importance in the story and he’ll be The Prisoner of Heaven.
This time, the enemy will be Mauricio Valls, the chief in Montjuic. The terrible Fumero is mentioned too, he was one of the enemies of Daniel and Fermín in the Shadow of the Wind.
Although it is mentioned, at the beginning of the book, that you can read the series’ books in the order that you want, I think it is better to read first The Shadow of the Wind and next, The Prisoner of Heaven because there are some past events mentioned in this novel.
Fermín’s story about his stay in Montjuic is interesting and crude. They were treated in a terrible way. And his escape from prison is the same as in “The Count of MonteCristo”.
The book’s end is intriguing. I wanted to know what kind of relationship had Martín and Isabella, among other things that I must not write because I would be telling part of the story.
I think this is a good book, but I liked more The Shadow of the Wind. I’ll see how great is The Angel’s Game and I’ll post my opinion.
