Ann Aguirre – The Razorland Trilogy.

03/09/2015 By paucoes Leave a Comment

The names of the books that are part of The Razorland Trilogy are: 1-Enclave, 2-Outpost and 3-Horde.

This awesome trilogy takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where some human mutations, named Freaks or Muties, live wanting to eat human flesh and blood. They’re not zombies, after you read the books you’ll know why.

There are some survivors living, underground, in places named enclaves. Deuce is part of this survivors and she is a Huntress. Her enclave’s name is School. To work as a Huntress, she must be the pair of Fade, a boy who wasn’t born in the enclave, but was allowed to stay because he had abbilities to survive.

The problems begin when Nassau, another enclave, is assaulted by the Freaks and Deuce and Fade must travel there to see what’s the situation.

From there, many situations will happen to Deuce and Fade, making them change their minds about the world and the way they saw it, situations as, discovering that there are survivors aboveground and that the world is really destroyed, meeting different people with different thoughts and more knowledge about the world, learning to coexist with that people and learning that the feelings aren’t a bad thing, falling in love, fighting many bloody battles against the Freaks, losing friends, etc. This trilogy is full of adventures!

Every detail in the battles is described, the movements the characters use and the whole bloodbaths and injuries. I can say this is a bloody trilogy without censorship, I liked very much this aspect.

I liked too, Deuce’s astonishment when she saw or heard something she didn’t know, her strength and her determination of doing the things she thought will serve to help humans. Her education in an enclave made her a survivor, like Fade, and made her, never, feel less than the others. Besides, she had loyal fiends always, Fade, Stalker and Tegan. Well, Stalker was a problem at the beginning, you’ll know why when you read the books, but, at the end, he was worth it.

There were characters that made Deuce realize that there were some other things beside fighting, being feared and cold and who made her a more complete woman, such as Mamma Oaks and Edmund. Of course, Fade was important in this aspect too. However, Deuce never stopped being fierce and very capable.

The way of deciding people’s name in the enclaves and seeing a 20 years old person like an elder was very curious. In Salvation, the place where Mamma Oaks and Edmund lived, Deuce realized that there were other humans with more than 20 years, so, she changed her idea of young and old people. She also saw, that being a religious fanatic wasn’t as helpful as the Salvation’s people thought.

Ah! I’ll say that something amazing and crucial happens with the Freaks in “Horde”. There are some new interesting characters such as Morrow, Thornton, Tully and Spence, and Gavin. And there are other settlements with different customs and different ways of surviving.

Well, I’ll add this trilogy to my favorite’s list. Definitely, it’s one of the best and more amazing trilogies that I’ve read. Huge recommendation!
