After receiving a disturbing letter from her cousin Catalina, Noemí Taboada must travel to the countryside to a mysterious mansion called High Place where Catalina is staying with her husband and his family. This mansion is the family home. There, Noemí must help her cousin if necesary.
High Place is a dark, sad and frightening place and the Doyles are a very strange family with dark secrets. Everyone keeps away from them.
Noemí must have to be very clever and brave to help her cousin and to keep herself safe.
I liked that the story took place in an old house, far from the city and near mines, that seems to be alive. I think that’s a great place for a suspense novel.
The Doyles were very unpleasant, specially the repulsive Howard Doyle and I disliked their practices to keep a strong race.
On the other hand, Noemí wasn’t of my favorite main characters though she was clever and very capable. I think she should listen Florence and quit smoking.
At last, I think there are very disturbing scenes in the book and it kept me in suspense but it didn’t frighten me.
I recommend this book a lot.
