Two women are brutally murdered in their houses. Charlie Feldman was the last one who saw them after, supposedly, saving them from a psychopath in the woods. They decided not to call the police because Charlie could be in problems for acting instead of calling the police since the beginning. Now, Charlie knows that the psychopath is alive and that he could try to kill him or those he loves.
On the other hand, there’s a detective, Landry, who finds a paper that could incriminate Charlie. He decides to keep it from his partners and investigate alone.
Charlie’s life is in danger, on the one hand there’s a psychopath looking for him and on the other hand he could seem guilty and crazy to some people.
I wanted very much to read a book written by Paul Cleave after listening to him in the International Book Fair of Guadalajara last year. I have another of his books, “The Cleaner”, I’ll read it and review it too.
This story takes place at New Zealand. The author explains us some of the country’s laws to understand why the story happens the way it happens and for me that was very useful.
It seemed to me that all the time important things were happening. Landry’s hasty actions, probably due to his sickness, seemed to happen very fast to me but that didn’t make the story less interesting . Why the women were killed that way and the fact that Charlie could go to jail if he called the police made the story very exciting. Besides, Charlie turns out to be very brave.
In my opinion, it’s a good book.
