The principal problem, in this book, for Yelena will be that her magic is blocked. She was attacked by someone who not even Valek could catch. Additionally to this big problem, Ben Moon, a magician who was imprisoned by her, has escaped and he’s looking for revenge. Yelena will follow his trail, with the help of her brother Leif, a magician named Hale, Opal and Devlen, to discover if he was involved in the attack in which her magic was blocked.
In the meanwhile, Valek and Commander Ambrose are doubting of each other and keeping secrets. Valek is ordered to end with the black market. To achieve this, he’ll count with Janco, Ari, and a new and very capable assassin named Onora, who wants Valek’s job. In this novel, is related all the story of Valek’s training for becoming an assassin, his first kills and the king’s murder along with all the royal family, with the purpose of avenging his brothers and helping the Commander to get control of Ixia.
This series continues to be one of the best, it has a lot of intrigue and action. The Commander still wants to kill all the magicians, so, he makes some deals without telling Valek. This situation made me doubt of the Commander, I don’t know if he can be trusted. Also, there are some political problems in Sitia that are beginning to disturb the peace.
On the other hand, Yelena continues to be the heroine that we know, even if her magic is blocked and all her and Valek’s enemies are trying to harm her. The truth is that she’s powerful and strong even without her magic.
Janco and Ari are, still, the most amusing and loyal characters. I had a lot of fun when I read something about them.
The book ends without giving solution to all the situations, so, it leaves you with a lot of doubts. For me, this is good, when a book leaves you in tension and wanting to read the next book, it means that it’s a good book.
This series continues to be one of my favorites and I recommend it a lot!
