Elisabeth Scrivener has grown in Summershall, one of the Great Libraries in Austermeer. She’s an apprentice librarian and she wants to become a warden, but for that she needs more training and knowledge.
The Great Libraries are the home of the grimoires, living and magical books that can be very dangerous. The most dangerous ones are chained in special places because they could become a Malefict, a vicious monster, if they were freed.
Elisabeth’s life changes after one of this grimoires escapes, or someone lets it escape, and she has to fight against the resulting Malefict. Since that moment she gets involved in a situation in which she’ll have to save Austermeer with the unsuspected help of Magister Nathaniel Thorn, whose family is known for practicing necromancy.
I wanted a lot to read this book since I bought it and finally I’ve done it.
I loved that Elisabeth’s home were the libraries and that she felt so happy being in one. I would like that in real life books would be alive too and that we could interact with them, only with the ones that won’t try to destroy our world.
My favorite character was the demon Silas. He was extremely strong and helpful. Without him Elisabeth and Nathaniel wouldn’t have achieved their goal, though they were brave, strong and intelligent, there were situations that only could be solved by Silas.
All the magic, where it came from and the rituals were very exciting. And Harrows is a place I would like to visit, though it was very difficult to enter.
I recommend this story to all booklovers.
