Alex Stern’s life has been complicated. She considers herself a survivor. She can see and hear ghosts, this makes her feel unhappy and misunderstood.
After nearly dying, Yale’s Dean invites her to be part of Lethe, one of Yale’s Houses. The one in charge of keeping the others under control.
These Houses use magic to obtain more power, pleasure, etc.
In my opinion, the story gets better as you read. At first it wasn’t keeping my attention but as I continued it got better and I enjoyed it at the end.
I liked the investigation, it had a lot of twists and a surprising end.
Alex wasn’t a character that I loved but I didn’t hate her either. She was brave and very capable. She made a good team with Darlington, also with Dawes.
It would be very interesting to be part of a school where some groups could do magic, although in this story the Houses used magic for selfish interests and they did violent rituals. I didn’t like these Houses.
I want to read the next book because the end is very promising.
