“A Castle in the Clouds” is the nickname for the hotel named “Château Janvier” located in the Swiss Alps. This is an old but beautiful hotel where wealthy families go to pass Christmas time, many of them visit the hotel every year.
The young and funny Fanny Funke is working there. Sometimes she helps at the spa and other times she pays attention to the children while the parents are occupied.
As she meets the guests, she realizes that some of them are peculiar. There is one young and handsome man who likes to climb the hotel’s facade, a russian oligarch who checks in with other name, a nine year old boy who believes he’s the hotel’s owner and speaks in a macabre way, a man who could be a bodyguard and a couple of old people who are making their dream of staying there true, among other characters.
Little by little, Fanny will discover the hotel and its guests’ secrets turning her job into a, probably, dangerous adventure.
I would like to mention that there’s also a beautiful romantic part in this story.
Well, in my opinion this book is exciting, amusing and very enjoyable. It got my attention all the time and it made me pass a very good time.
I think that Fanny is very nice and it’s easy to feel empathy with her.
The forbidden cat and the seven Hugos are very funny. The cat is also mysterious because he knows exactly when to dissapear or appear. I also liked Amy Barnbrooke, who loved books and tranquility. I would have also looked for good places to read or to enjoy the landscape.
I liked the loyalty of the guests. It made me imagine the hotel as a cozy and charming place where I would love to go.
Talking about the dangerous situation that Fanny experienced, I think she was very brave and she’ll never forget it. It’s true that sometimes looks are deceiving.
I recommend this book. I enjoyed it a lot. Favorite.
