Scarko is an unique Vraka, she can conjure swords and burn with her blood, and control dead bones. She’s Vojtech’s guard, the Djavul, the leader of the Order of the Saints. He’s not like her, he has other kind of magic and scary and very sharp horns and fangs.
One day he commands Scarko to go to Kezda to assassinate a streetfighter, named Zephir, who’s immune to magic and has been killing Vrakas.
At Kezda, Scarko will remember her terrible childhood in hands of the Praeminister, a supposedly holy man. She also will discover that the Djavul has been keeping secrets and she’ll meet new characters who can be trustworthy or not.
This book is the first of a series that I’ll read. It seemed to me that sometimes Scarko was easily distracted and unskilled. Nevertheless, she has a lot of potential and qualities.
I don’t like Zephir. He helped Scarko and then he betrayed her and then he helped her again and betrayed her again… I also dislike Vojtech, he was strange since the beginning.
On the other hand, I liked the end because it’s very promising and I liked Rhodri too. I hope he doesn’t turn out to be bad. We’ll see how the series continues. Very exciting!
