Alexandra has a complicated life, she’s schizophrenic and even with medication there are times when she can’t realize that she’s hallucinating something. She takes pictures of everything to decide if something is real or not and she asks questions to a magic 8 ball.
She’s trying to adapt to a new school after being expelled due to an incident caused by her schizophrenia.
In the new school she’s attracted to Miles Richter, a boy she met, or maybe she just made him up, when she was a girl. Miles is strange and everyone is afraid of him but Alex isn’t like the others, besides he seems to be attracted to her too.
Apart from Miles, Alex meets some nasty characters such as Celia Hendricks, a girl who’s in love with Miles without reciprocity and Clifford Ackerley who’s the classic bully.
Could Alex have a normal life in her school and perceive when she’s hallucinating or will she have problems again?
I think this story is nice, funny most of the time, sad sometimes, intriguing in the part of the scoreboard’s history and the strange school principal, and very interesting, both the story and its characters.
I liked the end even though the situation became complicated a little before. Also, I liked the author’s writing style so probably I’ll read other of her books. I recommend this lovely book.
